We are reaching out for support during a difficult time. Recent circumstances have created unexpected financial challenges, and we are asking for help from our family, friends, and community to get through this situation.
I don’t even know where to start, but if this story is going to make sense, I have to begin at the beginning.
In October 2017, Jimmy and I traveled to Long Island, NY to attend his 50th High School Reunion – "Go Roosevelt Rough Riders!" We had such a wonderful time. I finally got to meet the classmates he had talked about for years, and it was so nice to put faces to the voices and share that special moment together.
On our way home on October 8, 2017, just 16 miles from home, everything changed. A driver made a sudden left turn in front of us while we were going straight and struck us head-on. I was driving and Jimmy was in the passenger seat. We were both taken to the hospital. I was evaluated at the local hospital and released that same night, but Jimmy’s injuries required him to be transferred to Albany Medical Center.
For months we were in and out of emergency rooms, and incredibly, no doctor initially realized that Jimmy had suffered a broken back. It wasn’t until January 2018 that he finally underwent major surgery. His spine from L1 to L5 had to be repaired with rods, screws, and fusions. Since then, he has never been able to walk normally.
In July 2018, we made the decision to move to Florida, hoping the warmer weather would help with his pain and allow him to spend time in the pool for therapy throughout the year. Over the years we tried everything: epidural injections, nerve stimulators, physical therapy, and ongoing pain management. Unfortunately, nothing truly brought lasting relief.
Then in June 2024, Jimmy had taken me to have carpal tunnel surgery on my left hand. When he went to get the car to pick me up, he fell between two parked cars. I had to drive us home, and when we arrived, he fell again getting out of the car. Since that day, the falling has been constant. We have been in and out of hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and now skilled nursing facilities.
Throughout all of this, Pattie continued to work and care for Jimmy. She worked until losing her job in August 2025. In October 2025, she found a new job less than two miles from home, which was a blessing because it allowed her to run home quickly whenever Jimmy needed help. Unfortunately, just one week before Christmas, on December 18, 2025, she was unexpectedly terminated. Since then, she has been actively searching for work but has not been able to secure a new position.
On January 29, 2026, Jimmy had to undergo the amputation of his right leg. He has recently been transferred to a Skilled Nursing Facility where he will remain for some time while he learns to walk again and is fitted for a prosthetic.
This brings us to today. The financial strain from medical care, daily living expenses, and the loss of income has become overwhelming.
The funds raised will go toward essential expenses including medical bills, housing, food, and other necessities while we navigate Jimmy’s ongoing medical care and continue searching for stable employment.
Every donation, no matter the size, will help ease the burden and allow us to focus on Jimmy’s health and the road ahead.
If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser with others would mean just as much.
Thank you for your kindness, prayers, and support.
God Bless.
