My name is Jimmy Stuart. I’m 22 years old. I was an active, hardworking young man until one day I went to my friend's birthday party. We were having fun on an inflatable waterslide, going down normally and with minimal roughhousing compared to what I’m used to. I got to the bottom on my last slide and started having chest pains. Going to sit down to ease the chest pain, that's where my life completely changed. I tried to get a drink and couldn’t pick anything up. So we decided to go to the hospital, and trying to get up, I collapsed, leaving two of my friends to carry me to the car because we were not waiting for an ambulance. Getting to Parrish Medical, I got an MRI, and they found nothing. Not being able to move and feeling like every limb is asleep, they sent me to Holmes Trauma Center. The neurologist there for a week told me it was psychological. Finally, doing another MRI, they found swelling and bruising in my spinal cord neck area, causing a spinal cord contusion. I was diagnosed with a C3 to C4 incomplete spinal cord injury. They finally moved me out of the trauma unit in Holmes and sat me in a bed for two weeks until I finally got a bed at a rehabilitation facility. I have made some improvements, but my insurance only pays for 21 days, so being sent home in this condition, I need things like a shower and potty chair, slide boards and sheet, and numerous other things to function at home. Unfortunately, this injury has put me out of work, and fighting with disability, I cannot afford all these things. Anything helps and will be greatly appreciated. God bless everyone.
