Support Jimmy Hicks' Fight for a New Liver

Dear friends and family,

My name is Tammy Craig, and I am reaching out during an incredibly challenging time for my brother, Jimmy Hicks. He is a devoted father of three amazing children—Kayden, Preston, and Tatiana—and has been in a loving relationship with his fiancé, Christen, for the past 15 years.

Recently, Jimmy was diagnosed with liver disease. After undergoing various medical treatments, he was placed on the transplant recipient list two months ago. Just one month after being listed, he received the hopeful call that a liver was available. Unfortunately, we were devastated to learn that the liver was not viable for transplant. Now, we continue to wait for the next call that could save his life.

As part of his ongoing treatment, Jimmy undergoes paracentesis procedures twice a week to alleviate the fluid that has accumulated due to his condition. This procedure is essential for managing his symptoms, but it adds additional medical stress and fatigue to his already challenging journey.

While Jimmy has health insurance to cover his transplant costs, it does not alleviate the financial burden of travel to and from UVA Medical Center for appointments with his transplant surgeon. Most critically, his insurance does not cover the loss of wages he will experience while recovering from the transplant. Christen, who works as a teacher, has also had to take time off work to be Jimmy's caregiver. She must be prepared at a moment's notice to step in when Jimmy physically cannot care for himself. Her dedication to Jimmy and their family is incredible, but it also adds to their financial strain.

In addition to the travel and caregiving costs, Jimmy is grappling with the expenses associated with his ongoing medical treatments, including the frequent paracentesis procedures. The combination of medical expenses, travel costs, lost income, and the everyday costs of raising three children has created an overwhelming financial burden.

Because of this, we are asking for your help to raise funds to cover medical expenses, assist with travel to medical appointments, support his family during his recovery, and help with day-to-day living needs. All donations will go directly to Jimmy and his family for his needs through this journey to a new life.
