UPDATE: James E. Crews, known to his friends as Jimmy, is my best friend and has been like a brother to me for over 73 years. Recently, after battling the flu for two weeks, Jimmy decided to take a shower to freshen up. Unfortunately, he began to feel weak during his shower and passed out, falling and wedging his head between the shower wall and the built-in bench. The accident resulted in three broken vertebrae in his neck, leaving him a quadriplegic. After more than 60 days of surgery and early therapy, Jimmy is just beginning to feel tingling in some of his extremities. His journey ahead involves many months of therapy and around-the-clock care before he can even consider going home or walking again.
Jimmy’s insurance and Medicare will run out in less than 90 days, and he is not financially able to meet his ongoing medical needs. All donations to this fundraiser will go directly toward his medical expenses and any costs related to his current health situation, including doctor visits, treatments, and other medically necessary expenses not covered by insurance. Before his accident, Jimmy was an active member of his church choir, played trumpet in three different bands in The Villages, and enjoyed a vibrant life with his wife. He has always been the kind of person who would help anyone in need, and now he needs our help more than ever.
As we have found a facility that can provide the therapy that could possibly get him home, we need to raise more than $150,00 as they do not accept insurance or medicare for the therapy.
I am reaching out to friends, family, and the community to ask for your support. Jimmy is a wonderful person who has touched so many lives, and your generosity can make a real difference as he faces this life-changing challenge. Thank you for considering a donation to help Jimmy on his road to recovery and for being there for someone who has always been there for others.
