Support Jim and Judy

When you hear that someone is moving to Florida, especially when you’re from New England, everyone’s first thought is, boy am I jealous.  You envision endless warm days (straight into the winter!), long, lazy walks along the beach with your love - Judy, children and grandchildren visiting, picking up the guitar at any moment, catching up on those books you’ve been meaning to read, skateboards you’ve been putting off crafting, sketching, cooking for one another, trying new restaurants together... And for some reason, Key Lime Pie.  J  Well, things were exactly that way.  Great view from the patio, tropical birds, sizzling days, warm nights, nothing to shovel…we won’t say the *s* word, (whichever one you think of first).

While having a hernia isn’t common, having multiple ones that refuse to behave and stay put is another.  When you go to the doctor and it isn’t just a hernia anymore it’s the last thing you expected.  It’s severe back pain after every time that you eat and you blame it on the couch thinking it must just be that piece of cr** you’re sitting on.    When you bring this up the doctor tells you let’s not do any more x-ray’s let’s go in for a PET scan.  A PET scan is that test where they inject you with dye and when the results come back it “lights up” the areas that show potential disease.

First, you expect nothing, maybe something to do with the hernia?  What you don’t expect is to be told that the results lit up like a Christmas tree.  How do you hear a few months before, that it’s just another hernia surgery, only to be told now it’s Stage 4 Cancer.  Stage 4.  Not Stage 1, or 2.  But 4.  And not just in once place.  Lungs.  Spine.  Liver.  Bones.  It’s sort of like getting punched in the gut by a Mack truck.

Our dad was diagnosed in August of 2018 and immediately said I’m going to fight this.  He made a weekend trip back to New England where we rallied around him and began to pray, and cry, and laugh and remember.  So his fight began and he plowed through this gale force wind with pride and courage for 5 months.  Until it spread into his brain around January/February of 2019.

He’s had some major setbacks and Judy has been by his side through every appointment, every good day, bad day, new treatment, no treatment.  They went there to retire and live their golden years and that’s exactly what they did for almost a year.   Judy ended up having to go back to work to try to offset the medical bills with this completely unexpected diagnosis.  My Dad needs 24/7 care now so Judy is out of work.  Florida is super expensive.  You don’t think so but when you live there it’s a whole different story.  The Moffitt Center has been a God send but the bills are piling up.  We are trying to support him in any way we can from Massachusetts and California.  But with all of their family in other parts of the country it can be difficult.  We humbly ask that if you might help us give them a little financial support during this difficult time.  No amount is too small.

We truly appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts,

Jason, Amanda & Adrienne
