Support Jim Scanlan's Heart Transplant Journey
Donation protected
Welcome to Jim's GoFundMe- We want to thank everyone who has checked in, said a prayer, or even thought of Jim during this difficult time. Our hope in sharing Jim's story, will bring Jim and the entire Scanlan family an outpouring of love and an abundance of hope as they navigate this journey.
To summarize what’s been going on, Jim has been in the ICU for the last two weeks. After passing out at home, Trina rushed him into the emergency department. After stabilizing him at Gundersen, he was quickly transferred to Minneapolis at the Abbot Holmes Heart Hospital with the hope to provide the advanced immediate care he needs.
He was given the diagnosis of Biventricular End Stage Heart Failure and Severe Coronary Artery Disease in both arteries in his heart. This is causing his heart to work at about 15%.
Jim was given weeks to a couple of months to live if he was sent home without any medications. With these medications they said it could be up to 6 months.
The hope is to get Jim an LVAD (mechanical pump), which would then lead as a bridge to a heart transplant in the future.
He does not qualify for stents or bypass due to the damage of his coronary arteries.
The next steps would be for Jim to come home with a PICC line in place needing the care of a home health nurse. His cardiac IV meds alone are very costly. *UPDATE- Jim got to come home this week (12/16) and is being closely monitored and cared for by Trina & their daughter Meggan.
Once finances are in place they will begin the LVAD & heart transplant check lists which includes extensive testing.
Thank you for your continued prayers. The Caring Bridge page is linked if you’d like to follow along.
Please consider donating to support Jim and his wife, Trina, to allow them to focus on caring for Jim and spending time together, and with family, during this time. This fundraiser will help them take on these mounting medical bills and hardships that continue to come with new steps towards a heart transplant. All charitable donations will go directly to Jim and Trina to cover previous and upcoming medical expenses, costs of living, transportation and any other costs that may come forward during this time.
Again we cannot thank you enough for the love and support we have felt thus far!
