Earlier this year, my dear family friend, Jim Sanok, was diagnosed with advanced, nonspecific stage four cirrhosis of the liver. On June 18, he received the incredible gift of a donor liver — a life-saving transplant we’re deeply grateful for.
Jim has been unable to work for most of 2025 and likely won’t return until the fall. As a self-employed professional, he doesn’t qualify for New York State disability or related financial support. After two weeks in the hospital, he is now beginning rehabilitation to rebuild strength lost to muscle atrophy.
I’m reaching out to family and friends for extra support for the Sanok Family during this recovery period. They’ve been fortunate to meet so many kind, generous people along the way, and their support has carried them through.
Jim’s doctors believe his cirrhosis was largely the result of being improperly prescribed a long-term medication known to cause serious liver damage if not monitored correctly. There are many ways someone can develop cirrhosis and it’s often more complex than people realize.
Jim and his family are awaiting biopsy results from Yale to better understand the cause, but for now, they’re focused on healing and recovery.
Your support of Jim and the Sanok Family means more than words can say.
