Hello, we are the friends and family of Jim Myers, asking that you please read his story below and share it so that we can reach our goal to help him and his loved ones through this time:
James (Jim) Myers is facing brain cancer for the third time. Surgery is no longer an option, but there is hope in a Phase II clinical trial at the University of Pennsylvania, which he began in March 2025.
The trial consists of two drugs: retifanlimab and ATRA. While retifanlimab is covered by Penn and the clinical trial, ATRA is considered a specialty drug under Jim's insurance and will be very expensive out of pocket. The total cost of his medication will be about $740 per month - or close to $18,000 over the two-year treatment period.
Jim was first diagnosed in 2013 and had a successful craniotomy - and, remarkably, returned to his classes at Temple just 10 days later to complete his semester. He took a job in Chicago shortly after. After returning from Chicago in 2016, his cancer recurred. He underwent another craniotomy, followed by chemoradiation and a year of adjuvant chemotherapy. That experience inspired him to pursue his master's in education and become a teacher. Jim is now working in a new corporate role to help build a life with his fiancée, Anna.
As he faces this challenge again, he needs everyone's support to have a real chance at winning. In addition to the medication, Jim is following a holistic approach that includes diet, nutrition, and specialty supplements to strengthen his body and improve his chances of success.
This additional treatment will have significant cost implications over the next several years.
