Dear friends and family,

We are reaching out today with a heavy heart to ask for support for our beloved Jim Michiels. On September 11th, Jim was admitted in the ICU for Acute kidney injury and hepatic encephalopathy. He was then intubated and sedated when he was brought in by EMS. On September 15 doctors extubated Jim. Over night he aspirated and had to get re intubated. He became septic and got pneumonia. He became very sick and was maxed on all sedation and blood pressure medication. He was also no longer producing urine. He was then put on continuous dialysis for 4 days straight. On September 28 Jim got a tracheotomy and a feeding tube placed. He is still on daily dialysis. Doctors still do not know if his kidneys will recover from this. He will need to stay at a long term facility after his hospital stay to regain his strength. He still has a very long road to recovery.

While we are so grateful for the medical care Jim is receiving, the financial strain has become overwhelming. Even with insurance, we are facing significant costs, including:

-Long-term medications

-Dialysis treatment 

-Lost income as Jim is unable to work
