I am reaching out on behalf of a beloved member of our community, Jim Harris, who has recently been diagnosed with stage 3 cancer of the prostate and pelvic area lymph nodes. Jim will begin an intensive course of radiation and hormone therapy in September. Jim has always been a fighter, but this battle is one he cannot face alone. We are asking for your support to help him with the overwhelming medical expenses and other costs associated with his treatment.

About Jim

Jim’s life has been marked by his unwavering dedication to his community, his family, and his love for sports. After retiring from the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) as the Associate Director of Operations for Housing, Jim didn’t slow down. This year, he’s proudly

starting his 50th year as the clock keeper for both men and women’s basketball at UNCW—a

role he has cherished and excelled in for half a century.

Beyond his professional life, Jim has been a pillar in youth sports. As a Babe Ruth coach for 13-year-olds, he led his teams to several state championship titles, instilling not just skills but values of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship in countless young athletes.

Jim's love for sports didn’t stop there. He played slow-pitch softball well into his senior years, competing in the Senior League until the age of 72. Even now, Jim remains active with his golf game, recently achieving the remarkable feat of shooting his age—a testament to his enduring passion and skill.

Jim is a man of deep faith and is a devoted member of St. Mark Catholic Church. His faith, along with the love and support of his community, has always been a source of strength for him. Now, as he faces this challenging journey, we ask for your prayers to uplift him and provide comfort

during this time.

Now, Jim is facing the toughest challenge of his life: battling stage 3 prostate cancer. The diagnosis has been devastating, but Jim is determined to fight with the same strength and spirit that has characterized his entire life. However, the financial burden of treatment, medication, and

associated costs is overwhelming.
