Jill and I have been friends for 23 years, ever since we met working at the Nebraska Humane Society. Over the years, we've supported each other through life's many ups and downs, celebrated each other's weddings, and I've always admired her talent as a painter. Jill is the kind of friend who shows up for everyone in her life, and now she needs our help more than ever.
Earlier this year, Jill's husband, Brian, underwent hip replacement surgery. While he was able to return home on their wedding anniversary, things quickly took a turn for the worse. On March 3rd, Brian was readmitted to the ICU after suffering a fracture in his back. The doctors believe this was caused by long-term prednisone use following his kidney transplant in 2020, which led to severe osteoporosis. Because of his fragile condition and other health complications, surgery was not an option. Brian is now at Madonna Rehab in Lincoln, NE, working hard to recover, but his rehab team believes he will need to rely on a wheelchair for the foreseeable future. Once released, he will require assisted living or specialized care at a facility like QLI in Omaha.
This sudden change means Jill and Brian will likely have to move out of their beloved home in Benson, as it is no longer accessible for Brian. They may also be forced to part with some of their cherished animals—Lenny, Maxine, Phoebe, and Ziggy—who mean the world to them. Jill has been Brian's rock through all of this, holding down the fort at home and doing everything she can to keep their family together. While Brian is expected to be approved for disability, that support may not come until late summer. In the meantime, the financial burden of medical bills, rehab, moving expenses, and caring for their pets is overwhelming.
Jill is a phenomenal wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend who has been faced with incredible hardship in a short amount of time. If we can come together to support her and help keep her tight-knit family together, it would mean everything. Please consider donating or sharing this fundraiser to help Jill, Brian, and their beloved pets through this difficult transition.
