Jiaye You is a senior in the University at Buffalo’s BFA program in Art and Technology. Right now, he should be in the studio finishing his thesis and preparing to graduate with his classmates. Instead, he is being held in immigration detention and facing significant legal costs.
Jiaye is an important part of our community — a dedicated student, a thoughtful artist, and someone his classmates and professors care deeply about. His absence is felt. His family is deeply worried, and we are doing everything we can to support him and help bring him back to campus to finish the degree he has worked so hard for.
We are raising funds to cover the immediate legal expenses. At this time, the cost for his bond hearing and immigration case is estimated at around $15,000. In addition, the immigration bond itself may be approximately $30,000, though the final amount will be determined by a judge.
Any donation, no matter the size, will make a real difference. If you are unable to give, sharing this fundraiser would also mean a great deal.
