Help Support Jewell Sherrer Through Her Life-Changing Surgery

We are asking for your support, as Jewell Sherrer faces one of the biggest challenges of her life.

Last year, Jewell was diagnosed with Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP), a rare inherited condition that causes hundreds to thousands of polyps to develop in the colon and puts her at an extremely high risk of developing colorectal cancer.

In January, Jewell had her first colonoscopy, and we found out she had hundreds of precancerous polyps in her colon. We were told she could wait about 2-3 years for her surgery. Then, in June, we got a second opinion and Jewell had a second colonoscopy. The precancerous polyps had grown from hundreds to a couple thousand in just 5 months. This time, we were told she needed surgery within 6 months, before the polyps became cancerous.

After meeting with her surgical team, Jewell has made the difficult but necessary decision to undergo major surgery to protect her future and give herself the best chance at a long and healthy life. On October 27th, she will undergo surgery to remove her entire colon and will begin a new chapter of life with an ileostomy bag.

While this surgery is a necessary step in preventing cancer and protecting her health, it comes with a long recovery, emotional challenges, and lifestyle changes. It also comes with significant medical expenses. Even though Jewell has health insurance, it unfortunately does not cover a lot of her medical bills. The hospital stay, medications, supplies for her ileostomy, follow-up appointments, travel expenses, time away from work, and the unexpected costs that come with a major life change all go far beyond what insurance will cover.

This journey has been overwhelming, and we are asking for help as we prepare for everything ahead.

Anyone who knows Jewell knows the kind of person she is. She is loving, caring, strong, and always willing to help others. Even while facing this diagnosis, she continues to show incredible courage and resilience. Now, we are asking our friends, family, and community to stand beside her.
