Wotcher!
My name is David, and this story is about my cats. In particular two of them One is very, very young and her name id Dustbunny (Or DB, or Deebies, or Ms. Dustbunny Wiggles). She is a recent rescue kitten, having been found outside almost three weeks ago. She was small and scared and crying a lot, and while I looked I couldn't find her mom. And there were other adult cats in the area who were not happy with her presence, and what I suspect was a skunk. Either way, I couldn't leave her outside and so took her into my home, where she has been living in the bathroom to keep her safe and warm while I work on next steps. She had a serious flea issue when I first took her in, her eyes were infected and she was small and scared. Since that time she's had her full deworming treatment, has grown almost ten ounces, and after many baths is much less bothered by parasites. (At least visible ones)
The second cat is much, much older, and his name is Jet. He's 14 this year, and I was so lucky to find him right before lockdowns began at a shelter. He's been with me for five years, and he is a brave elderly baby. Over the last few years he's lost a great deal of weight though, and is struggling with digestion issues that clearly have him sad and feeling sick. While he still eats food and drinks lots of water, his "bathroom events" are very loose and unhealthy, and he is clearly in distress. My heart breaks that I haven't been able to do anything for him, but the ultrasound he needs next alone is far outside my ability to pay for, nevermind whatever next steps might be. Right now all I can do is try and comfort him, and follow him around with towels and strain remover to clean up after him. I feel terrible that I can't do more right now.
Right now we all live in a home together, and while those bills are covered (and I have medical and food stamps for myself), sadly both adult cat and kitten are in need of medical care, and I am worried for both, especially Jet. I have mental and physical health issues that have been keeping me from working, though I am trying. I keep my home and take care of my cats, and try to get by as best as I can and look after them as best as I can
Right now Dustbunny is in need of her vaccines, being tested for FIV and other issues, getting fixed (in several weeks time, she is only 6 weeks old now (as of time of writing, she will be 7 weeks soon) and is getting bigger and healthier so she can have that taken care of. But those things are expensive, as has been the unexpected and sudden cost of feeding a kitten proper kitten food. Thankfully I've been able to do that so far, but I've been stretched very thing with what little money I have.
On the advice of trusted friends I have put together this request for assistance for both Jet and Dustbunny. My hope is to get enough funds together to see to Jet's ultrasound, whatever treatment might come after that, and potentially special diet food for him until he is doing better. For DustBunny I need help with her vaccines, getting fixed, any tests she needs for kitty diseases, and possibly being chipped, depending on if that proves necessary. I have been looking around for better prices for these things, but while I might be able to find a cheaper ultrasound (I was previously quoted $850 which seems a lot), in the end I don't know how much the entire process between the two might be. So I have asked for 1,700 as a starting goal, in the hopes that this will be enough to take care of both cat and kitten through this, and see us out the other side. I recognize it's possible the cost may turn out to be more or less, in which case I might have to try and reach a further goal, or in the best case scenario extra funds can be used on necessities like cat food, litter and any other medical care needed (further shots, tests, etc)
Thank you so much for your consideration and kindness in reading this. If you are able to assist, we will all be endlessly grateful for your help. And we will be happy to share as many pictures of both cat's journey's to health as possible, and I will with much joy share the entire timeline of DustBunny's time with me to this point, to show everyone how much she's growing stronger every day. And I hope to likewise be able to share Jet's move towards better health.
From all of us at our home, we say thank you out there, whoever you might be, for whatever help you might give. I don't know what the future will bring, I just hope it's more time with the cats I love so much.
Sincerely and gratefully to you.
