After noticing a persistent low-grade fever, Jess saw her doctor to see if they could find the cause. After rounds of tests, they found a malignant-appearing 3.4 cm tumor on her left kidney.

After meeting with oncology and being referred to Moffitt, she is now facing a surgery that will remove part or all of her left kidney. This will mean a hospitalization of 2-5 days and at least 6 weeks out of work. The tumor will be analyzed post-surgery to determine malignancy and next steps.
