In November 2020, Jessika was a normal, happy 15-year-old — full of life, laughter, and dreams for the future. She was recovering from COVID when her legs began to hurt and grow weak. What everyone thought was a simple post-viral symptom quickly turned into something far more serious.
By February 2021, Jessika was hospitalized at Lurie’s Children’s Hospital in Chicago as her weakness spread to other parts of her body. Doctors initially diagnosed her with Guillain-Barré Syndrome, and she was transferred to the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab to begin intensive rehabilitation in hopes that her body would recover.
However, in May 2021, a genetic test revealed heartbreaking news — Jessika had the SOD1 gene mutation for ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). This rare and devastating diagnosis changed everything.
From that moment on, her parents, Amy and Pat, devoted their lives to caring for their daughter. They made significant modifications to their home to ensure Jessika could be cared for comfortably after she came home on July 8, 2021. Over the next four years, Jessika bravely fought ALS, facing countless hospital stays, doctor appointments in Chicago, and in-home nursing care.
Amy and Pat took extensive time off work to provide constant love and care for Jessika. Unfortunately, ALS does not allow for life insurance, leaving many financial burdens unprotected.
On October 20, 2025, Jessika was declared brain dead after her long, courageous battle. Her parents are now faced with the unimaginable pain of saying goodbye to their baby girl — along with the financial strain of funeral and final expenses.
We are asking for your help to support Pat and Amy as they lay their beloved daughter, Jessika, to rest. Any contribution — no matter the amount — will go directly toward funeral costs and helping this heartbroken family find peace during this devastating time.
Jessika’s spirit, strength, and smile touched everyone who knew her. Please consider donating or sharing this campaign to honor her memory and support her family in their time of need.
Thank you for your kindness, love, and generosity.
