Hello Everyone! Jess here, and I was really hoping to never have to do any updates like this ever again.
But we need a little help with money for Brad to come and see me at the nursing home on the far side of Toledo. Yes, I am back in yet again! My toes suddenly got worse over a couple of days, so we decided to take me back to the ER while I was still able to get out of the house on my own.
Usually, the EMTs have to use specialized equipment to get me out of the house, and yes, it is as nerve-wracking as it sounds. I have been dropped before while on it, which is very painful.
I am currently in Oregon, OH, which is about 15 miles (about a half hour) from the house. We only (barely) have enough money for Brad to be able to come over about once a week right now. He would naturally like to come and see his wife a little more often than that… online video meetings are a poor substitute for hugs.
On Monday, 3/9, I had an appointment with the Infectious Disease doctor, and he was not happy with how black and green the skin on top of the foot and around the 2nd-4th toes were looking. In fact, he made a call over to the wound care center, and the doctor from there came over also to look at it.
She changed the orders on what is to be done with it. They were thinking at first that they were going to be putting me directly back into the hospital. The wound care doctor talked with the vascular doctor and he said that it was ok for me to come back to the nursing home for now. I have to have an ultrasound on my legs to check how the blood flow is. After, that, they are taking me to the OR to debride the toes (scrape away any necrotic or severely infected flesh) and do a skin graft to promote healing.
Four years ago, another Infectious Disease doctor told us that I needed one, and none of the doctors we talked to about it would do one. Needless to say, we are extremely relieved that it is finally going to be done. I will be coming back to the nursing home after that, and I am not sure how long it will take for recovery.
Also, we have medical bills that we did not know were active. We went to get me into the nursing home that is just down the road from us, and they told us that I have a bill of almost eight thousand dollars that needs to be paid before I can ever go back there.
So we are trying to find money for it and still survive as well as pay other bills so we do not get kicked out of our house or have the lights and/or gas turned off… Brad likes to keep that stuff off or down when possible... but not that off!
In conclusion, we want to give a big thank you for everything that people have done for us in the past. Someday, this will all be in the past, and we can have our lives back. I am eager to get my home business back up and running… and Brad is eager never to have to ever again tend to any wounds worse than a paper-cut! Thank you all again for the help you have offered us during this ongoing crisis and for any help you can offer us now.
We love you all! Jessie and Brad
