My name is Jessica. My journey started days before Christmas and ended on Dec 27th.
I presented with what I thought was the flu.
When everyone else returned to normal and I did not. I knew something else was going on. A total of 5 days I was ill. I went to the ER with severe abdominal pain.
I turned out to have a severely infected gallbladder and was directly brought in for an emergency gallbladder removal at midnight
I was brought to the surgical wing after the removal and left surgery with a Jackson Pratt drain tube to continue to direct the bile out and the infection. I was discharged a few days later, with the Jackson Pratt tube still in place. The tube was removed once it got under a certain amount of drainage. It was removed on January 5th. A few days later I noticed an abscess and increasing pain at the wound site. I brought myself back into the emergency room on January 8th where I was admitted. I was given CT scans to find that I had an infection and an abscess had started to grow between the tissue. I was then brought into surgery the next day to put in a different tube that would drain out the infection as well.
They noticed that it was draining bile and they sent me in for an endoscopy where they placed a stent inside where my old gallbladder was to help redirect the bile to where it needed to go. That was on January 13th. I am still currently in the hospital. I am on four different IV antibiotics helping me combat my infection, and once the antibiotics are through I can be released. I have not worked since before Christmas. Things are starting to catch up and become a burden. Even once I am released I am on restrictions and still in the healing process and won't be immediately able to return to work. Anything helps whether you share or donate.
