Our parents are Herb and Jessica Watson, and as far back in our childhood as we can remember, they have faced numerous hardships with physical problems that have affected our family deeply. From multiple spinal fusions to joint replacements, more major surgeries than either of us have ever seen on one person, let alone two. Even with these complications, they have always pushed forward to keep going for their friends, children, and granddaughter. They have always tried to help everyone out that came across their paths, whether that be a complete stranger or a long-time friend. Despite her medical conditions, she always strived for her two children to be better and do more for us.

This October, our mother, Jessica, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of ovarian cancer while undergoing testing after she found out she has the BRCA1 mutation. Of course, this news hit her and our family hard. Our father, earlier this year, beat thyroid cancer, and a second cancer diagnosis so soon after has left our small family reeling. Our mom’s complicated past of medical conditions has left her with limited mobility and the need for lifelong antibiotic therapy, and this new diagnosis piling onto the rest is a stress no human should have to deal with.

Our mom is currently receiving care by an amazing, caring medical team at the Geisinger Medical Center here in Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, medical and travel expenses are already overwhelming, and our insurance is only covering part of the costs it takes to get our mom the care she needs, which has brought us here.

Although our mom initially didn’t want to do any type of fundraising, we’re at a point now with insurance only covering partial expenses that we decided to set this up. The set amount is for the surgery, chemotherapy, medications, traveling downstate for the care, and any other out-of-pocket expenses they might have.

We would be so, so grateful if anyone could help us take care of her now. Any donation, no matter how small, is deeply appreciated. So is sharing this post to help reach more people who may be able to lend a helping hand.
