Support Jessica through brain cancer

Donation protected
In January 2019, Jessica was suddenly and shockingly diagnosed with a brain tumor.
In the weeks and months since, she underwent brain surgery, we learned the tumor is cancerous (anaplastic oligodendroglioma), and she has had dozens of doctor's appointments for follow-up care and evaluations and treatment planning. Her second brain surgery was May 14, 2019, which will be followed by radiation therapy and chemotherapy.

We have such loving and supportive friends, family, and coworkers. There have been so many offers to help that we have been blown away. Thank you

This page was created not because we have a specific funding goal, but because we have been asked many times if there is a way to help.

At first, we could honestly say we couldn't think of any way for so many people to help, other than good wishes, and prayers for Jessica's recovery and skill for the doctors. Those continue to be very important prayers. Please continue praying.

Some key needs that we have realized since then are low-effort meals for the busy and tiring weeks and a sustainable way to have ongoing healthy food for Jessica. Another need is a presence to help take care of Jessica on the tough days.

We are capable of managing these needs, but we recognize how many of you have a heart for wanting to be a part of supporting us in this time. That could mean a donation, a prayer, sharing your story, or just dropping us a note of encouragement. We greatly appreciate the support and the community you offer when life can be hard.

So, how will donations be used to help?

Catering. We initially had a meal train set up, and it was a great blessing not to have to think about where our food was coming from as Jessica recovered from her first brain surgery. Since then, we have found a local catering company that is providing keto-friendly meals for ~$20 per day, which is what we would like to continue at this time. We have heard from multiple cancer survivors that a low-sugar diet can be effective combating cancers, which need glucose to reproduce. There is also a very encouraging study on the effects of a keto diet during radiation treatment of Jessica's exact type of tumor in mice.
Groceries. We will also use donated funds to buy healthy foods at the grocery, and initially get a few food storage containers to help fruits and veggies stay fresh longer, since Jessica is unable to drive at this time.
Travel Support. We have offers from friends and family to be present when we need their support, but many of them live out of town. We would like to defray travel costs for family coming in from out of state for weeks at a time to help take care of Jessica and take her to the many doctor's appointments. Their presence also allows TJ to continue working toward his senior reactor operator license and frees up his time when he is at home with Jessica.

Thank you again for all of the well-wishes and support!
