My name is Ashley Smith, and I hope to help raise money for my neighbors, Doug and Jessica Collins.
Doug and Jessica both go out of their way to help anyone in any way that they can; now, it is time for us to return the favor.
Jessica was out of work from July 12th, 2024, for a hernia surgery. She was able to utilize her short-term disability for her surgery until she felt well enough to return to work on September 25th, 2024. Jessica recovered well with mild restrictions but was eager to return to work.
On Christmas Day 2024, Jessica started getting sick. She was treated for a multitude of different illnesses, including the flu. She was given steroids and broad-spectrum antibiotics to help get her over whatever she was dealing with faster. Over the next few weeks, Jessica became even sicker. On January 16th, 2025, Jessica was not well enough to go to work for her normal shift. After several trips back and forth to the doctor, Jessica was admitted to the hospital to receive fluids and have tests performed. Jessica's skin and eyes had become extremely yellow; she was unable to eat without feeling sick and was very tired. Doctors were concerned she may have to have a liver transplant. By morning the next morning, Jessica's blood work would start to look less concerning, and several tests came back negative.
On January 31st, 2025, Jessica can still not return to work. Due to her just using short term disability at work for her surgery, she is unable to use it right now. While her doctor believes they may have found the answer, she is still going to the doctor several times a week, having tests ran, trying new medications, and staying home to get lots of rest unless her symptoms worsen. It's unclear how long it may take her to get better. It is a very scary time for Jessica and her family. On top of her medical situation I know they will be worrying about their bills while she is out of work.
I have watched Doug and Jessica open their home to many over the last 5 years of being their neighbors. I have watched them welcome all of the neighborhood kids into their yard to play and eat snacks. They offer support anyone, regardless of any differences each of them may have. They offer help to those who are moving in/out. They offer help for vehicles, hanging ceiling fans, and so much more.
I know that times are tough for everyone, but if you would be able to help this family financially I know they would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you!
