Help Jessica and Kevin and their newborn babies through an Unimaginable Journey.

THEIR STORY

Jessica and Kevin tried for a long time to get pregnant. Finally, in April of 2025 they found out that their prayers had been answered. Upon their first OB appointment, they found out that they were indeed pregnant but not with just one baby, they were being double blessed with two!! Twins!! The excitement and joy was palpable. Then in July they found out that they were having a boy and a girl!! At the same time they were also told the devastating news that their baby girls placenta was compromised and she might not survive. Thus began their long on going journey. Many prayers and Jessica doing everything she possibly could to keep both babies. Week by agonizing week. Hoping and praying at each weeks Ultrasound that they would hear babygirls heartbeat.

Then at the beginning of October as she was checking in for an OB appointment, the front desk informed them that something had been entered in wrong and they nor their MFM were not in their network. They left that appointment without seeing the Dr. very stressed out and not knowing what to do. Later that day Jessica's blood pressure spiked, understandably, and was so high that she ended up in the ER. The next appointment 2 days later, baby girls bloodflow became what they call absent and Jessica was put in the hospital. Come to find out that St. Joseph's hospital was also not in Network and ended up having to be transferred to the UW in Seattle. No longer having her OB or MFM Dr's. She spent the month in the UW hospital under daily monitoring, doing everything she could to keep the babies safe and let them grow as long as possible. On October 30th baby girls bloodflow reversed which meant it was no longer safe to keep them in the womb and it was time to bring them into the world.

Maxine and Jaxson made their entrance on October 31st. After their birth, both babies were admitted to the NICU. Jaxson grew stronger each day and joyfully graduated from the NICU the day before Thanksgiving.

Maxine’s journey, however, has been much more complicated. They were told by the Dr's that she was tiny but perfectly healthy.

Then a couple of weeks later Jessica noticed that Maxine began having significant breathing issues which was not normal and insisted that they look further into it. When they did, they discovered two holes in Maxine's heart. She was transferred to Seattle Children’s Hospital, where she underwent a PDA closure, a cardiac catheterization procedure, which was successful. During this procedure however, the doctors discovered she had an extremely rare congenital heart condition; Pulmonary Vein Stenosis, a life long disease that affects approximately 1 in 100,000 children. Plus they discovered problems with her lungs.

About a week later, Maxine required another cardiac catheterization to open her pulmonary veins. While the procedure itself was successful, she experienced a rare and serious complication and developed three blood clots in her leg. Treatment for the blood clots then caused her to have a brain bleed. She continues to fight these clots and requires ongoing treatment and close monitoring.

At her most recent echocardiogram, doctors discovered that the pulmonary vein stenosis is progressing rapidly, meaning Maxine will need to go in very soon for another heart procedure. She could need these every 4-6 weeks for the foreseeable future. Her journey is far from over.

As if the health issues with their baby girl wasn’t enough, on December 16th, Jessica and Kevin briefly left Seattle to take Jaxson to a pediatrician appointment and spend their first night at home in a long time. At 1:30 in the morning, they received a Go Now evacuation order, giving them less than ten minutes to leave their home due to a flash flood. Thankfully, Kevin, Jessica, Jax and Oakley were able to evacuate safely, but it was a terrifying ordeal!

Unfortunately, they did not have flood insurance, and have found out that there will be no help from state or federal disaster funds. The damage to their home has been extensive. They are now faced with having to gut and rebuild the entire downstairs, including repairs from under the house, new vapor barrier, insulation and ducts, replacing sub floors and floors, kitchen and bathroom cabinets. Removing and rebuilding walls up to two feet high. Then painting the walls. This list could grow once a City inspector comes through whom we are waiting on before any repairs can even begin. Flood water is very toxic and they need to fix all these things and make the house safe before they can bring both of their newborns home.

Between extended hospital stays far from home, repeated medical procedures, travel expenses, time away from work, and now unexpected and extensive home repairs, the emotional and financial burden has been overwhelming.
