Hi! Welcome to Jess's oh-shit-wtf gofundme where I attempt to cover my bills after my return to work exploding in my face after I had surgery!

In the middle of April I had long needed and greatly anticipated carpal tunnel surgery. I was going to be out of work for two weeks, but I'd communicated with everyone who needed communicated with, my shifts were covered at work, and I was planning on getting temporary disability for that period of time. Everything would be smooth sailing - except better than smooth, because I would no longer be dealing with a right hand that went numb and/or agonizingly painful throughout the day. Hell yeah and yay, right?!

Except, not so much. Are you familiar with the old saying that Man plans, and God laughs? Yeah. That.

I rolled into my second shift today - with a client I've had since October - only to find out that not only did my agency forget to tell me that my shifts with him had been cancelled while I was out, they forgot to even take them off the schedule. So instead of smooth sailing back into my pre-surgery life I lost fully half of my hours and income and had no advanced notice of it. I'll be losing another client in two weeks, leaving me scheduled for 10 hours a week after the 21st.

My agency will be finding me new clients, but it's unpredictable and I have no idea how long it will take to get back up to 28-30 hours a week. The last time something like this happened it took nearly a month to build my schedule back up. Meanwhile, the email I sent to HR asking about two missing time stubs that I need to file for my disability was overlooked and between that and the chaos of my surgeon's office moving means that my application only was sent to the state yesterday. Yes, I am planning on looking for a new agency, but in the meantime I can only carry on.

I was not prepared for this. I do not have enough in savings to cover the delay in SDI paying out *and* an unexpected massive drop in hours and income. I'm the primary financial support for myself and my 70 year old mom and I'm really hoping that I can raise enough money here to cover my portion of the bills for the rest of this month and my part of the rent for June so that she doesn't lose her entire mind with anxiety.

I know money is tight for everyone right now, and I thank you for even hearing me out. If you've got even $5 to throw my way I'd be deeply, deeply grateful.
