On July 9th, at 7lbs 5oz, Jess and Brady welcomed their sweet boy, Luca James, into the world. His arrival was both unexpected and urgent, and since then, the NICU has become their second home. Luca was born with an Atrioventricular Septal Defect (AVSD), a serious congenital heart defect often seen in children with Trisomy 21. The condition causes excess blood flow to Luca’s lungs, putting additional strain on his heart and lungs as they have to work harder than usual to keep up.
Despite the challenges, Luca has shown incredible strength, taking small steps forward each day as he grows stronger and closer to coming home. While this first hurdle is a significant milestone, the journey isn’t over. In 3–6 months, Luca will need heart surgery. It’s a lot for his family to face, but if there’s one thing Luca has already shown, it’s that he is one resilient little fighter.
Many of you have asked how you can support Jess and Brady during these challenging months. The financial and emotional strain has been overwhelming, with unexpected medical costs, travel back and forth, and time away from work and their girls. Any donation—big or small—means the world. If you're unable to donate, sharing this page is also a meaningful way to help.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity and support as they face this journey together.
