In June of 2019, Jess was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia after weeks of struggling with severe anemia. After this difficult diagnosis, Jess and the Donovan family took the treatment head on, facing it with positivity and determination. It was decided that Jess would undergo treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston and participate in a clinical trial.
Through all of July, Jess underwent intensive chemotherapy at Dana-Farber and remained admitted through her recovery period, and then was able to return to Portland during August, making one trip to Boston for another round of chemotherapy to get her ready for future treatment. The great news is that the chemotherapy was successful, but Jess' treatment is not finished. In the coming weeks, Jess will be undergoing a bone marrow transplant in Boston.
After the procedure, she will stay in Boston for follow up appointments and care with her medical team at Dana-Farber. The great news about this transplant is that it will give Jess the best outlook of keeping the leukemia in remission, and she is a great candidate for a transplant because of her overall health and young age. With that said, the process and long recovery is going to be challenging, which is where we come in. We’ll provide the funds, so Jess can focus fully on her recovery.
The funds raised in this campaign will help support Jess through the process of the bone marrow transplant and the subsequent recovery, which likely will span months. Jess will not be able to work with the general public for an extended time, so it is undetermined when she will be able to work. The funds raised in this campaign will be used towards bills (medical and everyday ones) as well as to provide assistance with costs related to recovery including lodging, food, medical supplies, transportation and therapy. The best way you can help Jess right now is to donate financially to her fight if you are able, and to share this campaign with your friends and family.
In addition to any financial support you can offer, another way to support Jess and those fighting cancer or seeking medical treatment is to donate platelets and register as a bone marrow donor, if you are able:

We think that the point is to pass the test or to overcome the problem, but the truth is things don’t really get solved. They come together and they fall apart. They come together again and fall apart again. It’s just like that. The healing comes from letting there be room for all of this to happen: room for grief, for relief, for misery, for joy.” -Pema Chodron
