In August of 2023, Jerry went to the ER for back pain. His symptoms were treated, and he was referred to a surgeon in Waco for a possible mass on his spine. The surgeon discovered that his back was fractured and he had tumors on L3 & L4. After a biopsy, he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. He had surgery to place rods and pins in his spine before addressing the tumors, as his spine was in danger of collapsing and paralyzing him. They were supposed to be removed around 6 months later, but he has not been in remission long enough for another surgery. He completed 10 radiation treatments then started chemotherapy. On April 15, 2024, he had a stem cell transplant from cells harvested from him. It was about a month-long process of harvesting, growing, and transplanting. His doctor had very high hopes that the transplant would put Jerry into remission for a few years. However, after approximately 2 months, his body rejected them.
In the year following the stem cell transplant, Jerry has gone to Baylor in Dallas every two weeks. He has tried multiple chemo drugs, and they usually only work for a few weeks.
He has been back in the hospital at Baylor for the last week. He has been receiving platelets every day, along with blood transfusions.
Jerry Current is the owner of Jerry’s Tire House in Mexia, TX. He goes to work sick, tired, in pain and against advice from others. If he isn’t there, then he is in the hospital. Despite all of that, he has not been able to maintain his business as he did before. Jerry and Pam are two of the most giving people I know. Please help them in their time of need as they have helped so many others.
