My Dad, Jerry Haas, was diagnosed with Stage 4 squamous cell carcinoma a little over two weeks ago. It started in his lungs and spread to his brain, spine, bones and liver. We had a game plan to start chemo, even had surgery to install the port in his chest. Last Thursday night things went down hill and he was struggling to breathe on his own so the doctors had to intubate him. They then found pneumonia in his chest which was contributing to him not being able to breathe, on top of all the cancer in his body. They’ve been treating the pneumonia but can’t start chemo while he’s on the ventilator. At this point the doctors believe his body is too sick to even do any chemo. They try every morning to ween him off of the ventilator but have not been successful. They typically only want a person on the ventilator for 7-10 days then it becomes extremely hard to get them off of it, if ever. We’ve discussed all kinds of different options on how to keep him here a little bit longer but all the options leave him sedated and on a machine in the hospital. This disease and sickness has come out of no where, none of us were prepared. At this time we are asking for donations to give my father the proper send off he deserves. None of us are ready to say goodbye but unfortunately it looks like that time is approaching quickly. All donations will go toward cremation and a funeral service for my amazing father. Any donations left over will be donated to a cancer research charity. We still welcome and need any and all prayers we can get.
We love you Dad.
Lord, when I feel weak and weary, be my rock and fortress. Strengthen me with Your mighty hand, and uphold me with Your righteous right hand. May Your presence be my source of unwavering strength and peace. Amen
