Jerry Garcia and the Lower Mission – Final Announcement
I regret to announce that Jerry Garcia and the Lower Mission has officially been cancelled. Despite much work and widespread community support, we were ultimately unable to secure the necessary rights from the Jerry Garcia Estate.
As a send-off to the project, the Magic Theatre will host two final nights of music and celebration on August 29 and August 30. Remaining funds raised will be dedicated to these farewell events. More information can be found on the Magic Theatre’s website.
Though the play will not move forward at this stage, Stone Foundation and Feldman’s Books are content with what this project accomplished. Together, we raised over $50,000, which directly supported the production of more than eight concerts. These included performances at Bar Loretta in San Francisco, Feldman’s Books in Menlo Park, and a series of memorable shows at Fort Mason and the Magic Theatre. We were honored to host final performances featuring Rory McNamara, as well as to collaborate with remarkable artists including Redwood Souls, Alex Jordan, and Sunshine Garcia.
While the show itself cannot go on, this journey was not a lost cause. We built community, made lovely art, and celebrated Jerry’s enduring spirit. We thank all the artists, audiences, and supporters who believed in this vision.
We also extend our best wishes to Campo Santo, the Magic Theatre, and to Richard Montoya as they carry forward the lessons of this process and seek new ways to bring the story to life.
