Many of you may remember the fatal hit and run in McKinney of 14-year-old Jamir Dabney on 12/21/2024. Jamir’s grandmother is Jerrilyn Dabney. Jamir and his family were living with Jerrilyn at the time. Since that terrible day, Jamir’s mother moved back to Louisiana with 2 of Jamir’s siblings. His other 2 siblings stayed with Jerrilyn and 2 cousins who are under her custody.
Jerrilyn has been left alone with the financial burden of taking care of 4 kids (1 is trying to go to his first year of college in the fall on a partial scholarship). Wanting to remain near the area where Jamir lost his life and keep the younger niece she has custody of in the same school, Jerrilyn is struggling to keep an expensive rental versus moving to a less expensive option that is requiring significant upfront fees and moving costs. She is also facing how to help with school tuition for her grandson on top of all of the other monthly bills. Jerrilyn is dedicated to the well-being and happiness of her grandchildren and niece/nephew. The youngest is at an age that needs Jerrilyn’s full attention and guidance. Jerrilyn is currently working 2 jobs but finds that this is taking important family/“parental” time away from the kids. Jerrilyn has not received any funds related to Jamir’s accident. She is supporting his siblings and trying her best to instill strong Christian values and a life of stability for them.
Please consider donating to help her settle on the best living situation for her family that will set them up for a consistent home and to help her raise the remaining tuition for Jamir’s brother.
