I’m Jerrica, a screenwriter from Memphis, TN. After my father took me to see my first movie at the age of seven, I quickly developed a profound fascination for storytelling and cinema. This journey led me to earn an MFA in screenwriting in 2021. In 2022, my first horror film, "Caroltyn," was produced by an independent film company and later acquired by BET+. I’ve written several scripts across various genres, with some achieving recognition in competitions. My mission is to create stories with unique perspectives on contemporary themes, featuring compelling characters who have powerful stories to tell.

Recently, I’ve been in contact with a legit company who can pitch and negotiate with production companies on my behalf, but of course it's not free. The company requires a retainer fee to acquire their services. The company loves the idea, and a production company they've contacted already wants to review the pitch for the series. Unfortunately, I am in a financial hardship right now and don’t have the money to cover the retainer fee, which is why I’ve created this page. I don’t want to give up on my dream of writing so I’m asking people with dreams of their own who have been in hardships or just simply like the idea of the show to support in anyway you can.
Below, I’ve added a logline and summary about the series and why I think it’s important.

Logline: A house of former convicts living under one roof, trying to keep each other out of trouble while offering guidance to new offenders who stop through.

"Halfway" is written along the lines of films/shows such as "Life" and "The House of Payne." This series is about four ex-cons who have found an unlikely home in a worn, but welcoming halfway house. They’re like a dysfunctional sitcom family, trying to navigate life outside prison walls while keeping their noses clean, which is no easy feat when one of them has a knack for accidentally setting off the smoke alarm while making toast.

Every day is a new adventure filled with the aroma of burnt breakfast and a chorus of colorful anecdotes about their past shenanigans. One moment they’re arguing over whose turn it is to take out the trash, and the next, they’re offering sage wisdom to the new arrivals, who look at them like they’re ancient sages from a mystical land. As they help to illuminate paths toward redemption in the chaotic world outside, they also share their hard-earned life tips, which range from “don’t chew gum in the wrong place” to “the secret to making a decent cup of coffee is still a mystery,” laughter rings through the house.

Despite their rocky pasts, this merry band manages to create a quirky family dynamic, proving that redemption is possible—even if it often comes with a side of hilarity and a few burnt meals.

In a world where judgment is often passed based on appearance, culture, or past actions, this show demonstrates that you can't judge a book by its cover through the personalities of its characters. While the series maintains a comedic tone, it also features serious moments that lead to uplifting and humorous conclusions. The goal is for viewers to watch this show and see aspects of people they know in these characters, allowing them to relate to the situations presented in the storylines while gaining a new perspective.

I truly believe the story and themes of this series are worth talking about!
