The S-G family

Donation protected
In September, I brought a family of six into my home from the car they were living in. They are asylum seekers that surrendered at the border as our Constitution allows. They did not cross illegally.
They are mom, dad, 10, 8, and twin four-year-olds. They are absolutely delightful and incredibly hardworking. But they are not allowed to legally work until 30 days post April 10, 2025.
In their two+ months living with me, we secured a very used, but functioning minivan, hired an immigration attorney to present their asylum case, dental cleanings, glasses, an asthma inhaler, and most importantly, the children have all been attending school. After many months of trauma (their journey here was 2 months and 3 days), the children are thriving. Mom and dad have been working 7 days a week cleaning houses and other odd jobs. We were moving forward with an apartment rental December 1 (location required a car).

And then the evening of November 5, dad was driving for DoorDash after cleaning all day and in the ice and snow of Denver’s first big storm, dad was in a car accident with no injuries, but the family car is totaled. The insurance deductible and traffic fines (bad weather is never an excuse in CO) has wiped out their minimal
savings. Without a car, living with me was no longer a viable solution. Public transportation in the suburbs is inadequate. It would be three buses and a train to even take the children to school.

Using some of the funds already raised, they moved into an extended stay hotel that has a kitchenette and was 12 miles closer to their school than my house.

And just before Thanksgiving, using the donated funds to pay the 3X security deposit that they were required to pay due to their status, they moved into a 2 bedroom 1 bath apartment. The funds raised have helped with all of this and will continue to help to subsidize rent for them until May when they can apply for jobs with legal work permits.

THANK YOU for your generosity!

Please consider donating to this family so they can live within walking distance to the children’s school, a grocery store, and the light rail train until they can obtain work permits (approximately 6-7 months).

Their story is much longer and much more complicated, but I have tried to capture it succinctly here. If you have questions that need answering before you might consider donating, please ask me.

Thank you very much for considering this wonderful family.
