In August 2024, Jeremy, Emily, Christian and Savannah Fye relocated to Lakewood Ranch, Florida excited to start their new life in the Sunshine State. Their adjustment has been eventful, to say the least, with moving away from friends and family, adapting to career changes and new schools, dealing with major hurricanes, and now, Jeremy's health.
On November 2nd, Jeremy admitted himself into Sarasota Memorial Hospital with what he can best describe as severe anemia. They discovered that his red & white blood cell counts were well below normal, his platelets basically nonexistent, and his liver enzymes were all out of whack. He underwent multiple blood transfusions which helped boost his red blood cell count and allow his liver to recover, however his platelets and white blood cells did not improve, thus driving the necessity to undergo a bone marrow biopsy.
Unfortunately, the results of the biopsy were not favorable, and on November 5th, 2024, Jeremy was officially diagnosed with Acute Myeloblastic Leukemia (AML).
Since then, Jeremy has had numerous rounds of chemotherapy, countless hospital stays and visits, medications and constant testing. He's fought through the aftereffects of chemo, battled the side effects of medications and other complications, in addition to spending prolonged time away from his family. He's been a true fighter throughout his treatment and on December 24, 2024, his perseverance paid off when his bone marrow biopsy results confirmed that he was MRD-negative remission.
Although this is great news, his journey is not over quite yet as his form of AML can come back very quickly and aggressively. Jeremy has had to continue consolidation chemo, until he receives a bone marrow transplant. This will take place on March 16th and his son, Christian, will be the donor. While this is the only treatment path to achieving a regular life again, bone marrow transplants can come with some risks. Between the consolidation chemo, bone marrow transplant, and the possibility of long-term maintenance and care, he still has a very long road ahead of him.
On top of the Fye’s world being flipped upside down, the medical expenses are adding up and unfortunately insurance doesn't cover it all. Many have asked what you can do to help Jeremy and his family, so we are bonding together to create a support system for them by helping take care of their medical bills.
Thank you to those who have already shown your support to Jeremy and the family and thank you to those who are able to contribute to this cause. If you are unable to contribute, know that your thoughts and prayers are welcomed by the Fye Family as well.
