Support Jeremiah's Kidney Transplant Journey
Donation protected
We met the Helwig family when we moved to Florida, and they lived in the same community as us. They were such a welcoming family and would do anything for anyone, including home repairs for multiple people who lived within the community. I did not know about the need for a kidney for their son for a long time as they did not let that impact how people saw them. They are a church-going family that has helped out anyone that needs help; they pay it forward without expecting anything in return when they need more than most of us.
Jeremiah had kidney cancer when he was 1, which made him lose one of his kidneys, and the other one failed at 19 years old. He has been on dialysis for 5 years. Jeremiah grew up in Ohio for the first 19 years of his life, then moved down to Florida with his parents when he graduated. He was heavily involved and enjoyed Boy Scouts and hanging out with his friends before starting to have kidney issues. His goal in life would be to enjoy the freedom of not being tied to dialysis and dreams of his independence to move out and travel some once he gets a kidney.
They have been waiting for a kidney longer than we thought possible and have had many ups and downs during the last 6 years. From many hospital stays to being matched only to have complications with the matched candidate. They finally have a date for a transplant at the Mayo in Jacksonville at the beginning of July! I am trying to help them cover some of the costs for his parents since they will need to be staying at a hotel for about 4-6 weeks. I am sure that there are other costs that will come up and want to make sure they focus on their son and his recovery and not finances.
We appreciate any amount that you feel comfortable donating to this amazing family! It is our turn to pay them forward. If all you can afford is prayers, we take those too!
