Support Jen's Mom in Her COPD Battle
Donation protected
Hi everyone, my name is Jen and I’m starting this GoFundMe to help my mom, Trisha. She is 67 years old but suffers from severe COPD (she has less than 20% lung usage) and she has to be on oxygen 24/7. Due to her low lung capacity, everyday tasks are extremely difficult for her, and while in the home, she has to either use a walker or a wheelchair. COPD is a disease I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. You slowly watch your loved one become a shell of their former selves. Things they once loved to do (for my mom, it was always shooting pool), they can no longer do, and it’s heartbreaking.
My mom has lived on the top of a mountain in Keyrock, WV for the last 45+ years, but due to her medical condition, it is becoming more difficult for her to stay in her home. The only heating system is a wood-burning stove, which is very unhealthy for someone suffering from COPD, and the access road to the house has been washed out over the years. It is very difficult for family members or in-home nursing to reach her and nearly impossible for an ambulance to make it up in case of an emergency.
We are hoping to raise funds for 3 main purposes, and if any money is left over, it will go towards other repairs on the home (new stove, new dryer, fixing the front porch, etc).
Most importantly, we need to replace the heating system with something new and efficient (possibly electric heat) so she can live in her home year-round. Currently, she has to stay with me or other family during the winter months, which would be fine, but as her health slowly declines, the trips get harder on her body (she lives in WV and I live in CT).
Second, we are hoping to build a new access road in a different location on the property that will make it accessible for family members (to visit and take her to doctor's appointments), healthcare workers (I’m hoping once the road is fixed, we can get an in-home nurse for her), and friends to just be able to visit her when they want.
Last but not least, we want to build a wheelchair ramp in the front of the home. This way it's easier on her to go to doctors appts, the store, and to try to get out in the yard when possible.
Any and every donation will be greatly appreciated and will 100% be used to improve my mom's quality of life and allow her to continue to live where she raised us and called home for nearly a half-century.
