My name is Falon, and I have known Jen since I was 15 years old (over 25 years). She is one of my very best friends, part of the family I have chosen for myself, and the Godmother to my child. As I sit 451 miles away from her, I struggle to find the right words to tell you about one of the hardest battles of her life—the “C” word (and not the one you’re thinking of). You never want to imagine the people you love having to fight cancer. After watching her dad lose his battle, Jen is now facing her own fight with Stage 3 cervical cancer.

It began around Christmas with ongoing health issues. In July, during a procedure that doctors were unable to complete, they discovered a tumor. After weeks of waiting for tests and appointments, Jen received the devastating diagnosis: Stage 3 cervical cancer. Hoping surgery would be an option, she was heartbroken to learn that the tumor was too large and she would instead need to undergo both chemotherapy and radiation.

As if that news wasn’t enough, just three days after her diagnosis, her husband John was laid off. Their daughter, Balie, is navigating her senior year while trying to stay strong through all of this. Jen’s adult son, Avery, works out of state and is unable to help with her daily care during treatment.

With the upcoming treatments, Jen’s ability to work will be reduced, and the overwhelming costs of cancer care will place a heavy financial burden on her family. That’s why I am starting this GoFundMe—to help ease some of that burden so Jennifer can focus on her healing and her fight.
