Support Jenny's Journey to Recovery - We Need Your Help

Donation protected
We are in desperate need of funds to cover Jenny's need for caregivers! Jenny needs someone with her 24/7. She is living in the private home of a teacher who needs to work. Eventually Medicaid should pick up these costs, but in the meantime, we have been paying with private funds that are running dry.

Many of you know about Jenny's battle with meningitis over the winter. Many of you know that when she came out of her coma, she was deaf and blind. Jenny can talk and her mind is in tact, but dealing with this new world isn't easy. We invite you to join us to rally around Jennifer Hunter, a remarkable woman who is facing unimaginable challenges.

Who is Jenny Hunter?
Jenny has lived her life as a free spirit and adventurer, spending summers as a rafting and hiking guide in Utah, winters as a ski instructor in The Rocky Mountains, and in between - substitute teaching or working at the Renaissance Fair in Texas. This all came to an abrupt halt a few months ago during the "between season" in Texas, when Jenny was staying with my daughter, Kate Powell.

Jenny's Journey
1. The battle with Meningitis - November 2023
Meningitis is a silent predator, striking swiftly and leaving devastation in its wake.
  • For Jenny, meningitis attacked almost overnight, and Jenny spent weeks in a coma, fighting the infection
  • When Jenny awakened, she was unable to respond to simple commands and didn't track visual stimuli.
  • Jenny fought valiantly, but the aftermath has been profound - she awakened deaf and blind.

2. The aftermath
  • Imagine a world with no music, laughter of loved ones, without the beauty of the sunset, encouraging words from a friend.
  • Her ability to speak remains, and she reads words written on her palm. She does remarkably well given all she has lost. But she cannot be alone.
  • Jenny's spirit has remained unbroken, but she will need specialized care, therapies and adaptive tools to navigate her new reality.
  • Jenny has no money. She has applications pending for SSI, Medicaid and Medicaid Waivers, SNAP, and Vocational Rehabilitation. She waits.

3. The Road to Recovery
  • Jenny's journey will be long and arduous, but it has already begun.
  • Jenny received cochlear implants, which will restore some of her hearing! The blindness remains.
  • She needs ongoing medical attention, rehabilitation, and emotional support, and loving care providers.
  • We believe in her strength and we want to provide her with every resource possible, but we need to start by getting her the help she needs right now.

How You Can Help
1. DONATE
  • A donation now will pay for Jenny's immediate needs, for someone to be her eyes and ears and help her through the day.
  • These needs were being met by a couple of very generous private donations, but the money is running out and the wait for state services is taking longer that we could guess.
  • Our goal now is $10,000 to cover her immediate needs and get her through the summer.

2. PLEASE Spread The Word: Share this campaign with you friends, family, and social networks. Together we can create a ripple effect to build support for Jenny.

3. Send Encouragement: Leave a heartfelt message for Jenny. Your words of encouragement will keep her spirit soaring.

4. Join Us in Jenny's Journey
Jenny's spirit is a beacon, and we can all help it shine with love, empathy and financial support. 100% of every dollar raised will pay for Jenny's direct needs: She is currently living rent free, but other expenses of daily living are not covered, most importantly, caregivers and medical transportation. PLEASE HELP WITH JENNY'S JOURNEY. Any funds left when Medicaid kicks in or other solutions are found will be used to help Jenny acquire devices designed to make her life more manageable.

Thank you for your kindness, generosity and your belief in Jenny and in the Power of Community.
