Support Jenny's Continued Care and Major Surgery

Donation protected
Dear friends,

It’s been a year since Jenny experienced the first symptoms of her Crohn’s Disease flare-up that began a devastating spiral of health challenges and setbacks throughout 2024.

Our family is eternally grateful for the deeply kind and generous outpouring of love and support from a caring community of family and friends during our most difficult year.

Jenny now awaits a major surgery on Saturday that will hopefully get her on the road to stability and improved quality of life.

As we head into the next chapter of this healing journey, we are starting a second round of crowdsourced funding to help our family meet the costs necessary to ensure Jenny’s health and wellbeing. You can learn about our first successful campaign launched in March 2024 here .

However, nine months later, we continue to incur significant unexpected expenses, such as:
  • Medical and surgery costs uncovered by her health insurance plan.
  • Hiring a full-time team of caretakers and rehabilitation therapists.
  • Loss of regular income from our time overseeing Jenny’s daily care.

Jenny made slow progress over the summer while she was mostly in rehabilitation care and then back in a regular home setting in late August while we were based in the Washington DC area. She experienced setbacks with three hospital admissions from late July through August due to blood clots, urinary tract infections, and the need for ongoing blood transfusions.

Jenny’s colon inflammation recently worsened to the point where surgery is now the only option. In May, Jenny had an ileostomy surgery (excision of part of the large intestines). She now requires a total colectomy (complete removal of her large intestine).

We relocated back to our home base in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico where Jenny has been soaking up the beauty of her garden and the loving care of a wonderful Mexican team of hired in-home caregivers. Jenny’s physical and cognitive challenges require 12-24 hour caretaking.

We are so grateful to anyone making a contribution to this next round of Jenny’s Healing Fund. Your contribution will help our beloved wife and mother recover and enable our family to ease the financial burden of a long medical odyssey.

Thank you again to everyone who has sent messages of support and encouragement. We feel them deeply, and they continue to uplift us!

With Love,
Dan, Weezie & Satchel
