The Metro Girls High School Hockey League, along with so many in the broader hockey
community, was heartbroken to recently learn that our dear friend and colleague Jenny
MacDougall has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of blood cancer, acute
myeloid leukemia (AML).
Jenny has been a tireless champion for youth hockey in Illinois for decades. After
moving to the U.S. from Canada, she dedicated herself to growing the game for both
girls and boys, believing deeply that every child deserves the opportunity to play. In
2005, she founded the Naper Valley Girls Hockey Team, creating a high school program
so her daughter — and countless other girls in the Naperville area — could compete.
Even after her own children moved on, Jenny never did. She has remained an active and
devoted member of the Naper Valley program for many years.
Beyond the rink, Jenny’s leadership has shaped hockey across the state. She has served
on numerous boards, including the Metro Board, most recently as President, and
continues to be an active member of the AHAI Girls Committee. Her passion, integrity,
and relentless advocacy have helped open doors for generations of players, ensuring
that girls have the same opportunities in hockey as boys.
Jenny is not only a respected leader — she is a trusted friend, mentor, and source of
strength to so many. Now, as she begins this fight against AML, it is our turn to
surround her with that same strength and support.
We have created this GoFundMe to help Jenny and her family with everyday expenses
as she steps away from work and her many volunteer commitments to focus fully on
her health. Funds raised will assist with meals, daily living needs, and medical expenses
associated with her life-saving treatment that are not fully covered by insurance.
Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference — helping Jenny
focus on healing without the added stress of financial burden. Sharing this fundraiser
with your hockey family and community would also mean the world.
Jenny has given so much to this sport and to all of us. Now, the hockey community she
helped build is coming together for her. Thank you for your generosity, support, and well wishes during this incredibly challenging time.
