On Tuesday, April 8th Jenn had expressed to a handful of people that she was not feeling well, not feeling like herself, and feeling “foggy.” She had been spending time with her friends at the VFW in Randolph, when her boyfriend headed over there to bring her back to his house. However, before he could pick her up, Jenn drove off, heading in the direction of Steamburg to get on 86 towards Salamanca. On the corner of Route 394 and Woodmancy Road, she collided into a tree. There were no skid marks on the road, telling us that she did not break before the collision. Due to this, the Sherriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office believes that she had some sort of medical emergency, leaving her incapacitated when the collision occurred.
Jenn’s life had always been plagued by a plethora of medical concerns and issues. As of late, she had tendencies to fall; had a concussion in December from slipping on ice; she had some hemorrhaging bleeding a few months ago that stopped on its own, so she never followed up on it with her doctor; lost over 100lbs in the last handful of years, after her heaviest weight being close to 600lbs 25 years ago; discovered a heart murmur; had knee and leg pain to the point where her legs were swollen and she had trouble walking the weekend before; she had clotting in her legs, causing huge hematomas to turn into infected wounds that she had to have specialized care for; she had herniated discs and scoliosis; had high blood pressure issues the majority of her life; and was generally just in a lot of chronic pain.
The coroner/funeral director told us that she just looked to not be in generally good health. All of this information leads him to believe, that it was in fact a medical episode that caused her to likely lose consciousness and hit the tree. He presumes it was a cardiac event.
We have decided to arrange an autopsy to find out what happened, otherwise we will never know. Unfortunately, this will be an out-of-pocket cost. We are exploring many avenues to be able to pay for the autopsy and arrangements. We will be working with social services to help cover the cost, as she also did not have any life insurance.
After exploring all avenues, and meeting with the funeral home this afternoon, we believe we will be short about $5,000.
We hate asking, but anything would help. We want to honor Jenn in the ways she would have wanted, and we don’t want her death to be one big tragic mystery.
