My name is Jennifer and I'm a 52-year-old woman with severe type 1 diabetes. I am insulin-dependent 5 times a day. Back in March, my legs swelled up about 3x the size, and I lost all use of my arms and legs within a month's time because I couldn't afford my insulin and my job didn't offer health insurance. On April 12th, I was taken to the hospital, and I had edema and cellulitis in my legs so bad I wasn't able to walk for 4 months. I had a catheter for 4 months as well because I couldn't get myself to the bathroom. I had an IV for 4 months as well, and I had so many antibiotics run through me for most of that 4 months. The hospital ended up releasing me to a nursing home for 4 days, and in that 4 days, I almost lost my life. I couldn't breathe and was on 70 percent oxygen. I had talked to my mother that day and could hardly talk to her. The next morning, my mom, 2 daughters, and son came to get me out of that nursing home because I was almost dead. They called the ambulance, and I was moved to a different hospital, and they discovered that my liver and kidneys were not doing good, and I had pneumonia. My stomach, chest, and left kidney were filling up with fluid, so I had to have surgery to put drains inside to drain all the fluid out so I could breathe. My hemoglobin was also very low, and I had to have a blood transfusion. Since all this, I was moved after 7 weeks to a nursing home so I could heal and have been dealing with a number of issues such as chronic diarrhea. I had to have the catheter removed and couldn't urinate on my own, so I've been having to self-catheterize since July 10th. I am being treated now for a UTI that I've had for months and didn't know because of having a catheter. I haven't been able to work since March, so I haven't had any income at all, and I'm waiting for disability. I paid up 2 months of bills when I first stopped working that I had worked so hard to save up and then needed it to pay up anything I could, but I have been without anything since then. I would appreciate any help that I could get. Every little bit helps, and I'm very thankful for any blessings that come my way. I'm usually very independent and don't need to ask for help, but I never thought at my age I would be in this situation. Thank you and have a blessed day.
