Support Jennifer's Recovery and Future

I am starting this campaign on behalf of my good friend and former lacrosse teammate (SUNY Oneonta ’96) Jennifer Gordon. Jenn is an amazing mother, educator and friend who is currently facing the potential loss of function in her dominant hand. The consequences of this loss would be devastating to Jenn’s career as a Professor of Anatomy and Physiology, where she relies on her motor skills to educate students who aspire to medical and veterinary careers. After a recent accident, Jenn had emergency surgery followed by a lengthy hospital stay. On top of her mounting hospital expenses, she will need additional surgeries on her hand to regain use of her dominant hand. Jenn’s selfless nature drives her to put her family and friends ahead of herself.

She pushes the limits of her physical and mental abilities in service of others. So far she has raised nearly $20,000 for charitable causes as an endurance athlete. She supported Multiple Sclerosis patients, including two close friends battling the disease, by finishing three 150 mile bike rides for the MS150, as well as many 5K runs. She also completed three PANMass challengers to support Dana Farber’s cancer research and her own family members that have been impacted by cancer; this is in addition to making thousands of cakepops to fundraise for a 9 year old girl’s costly cancer treatments. Jenn accomplished all of this while raising three amazing children, completing a PhD, and establishing her career as a university educator.

 

After years of giving every spare ounce of energy to supporting others in need, Jenn is in need of help from others. Jenn’s injury has left her with significant hospital bills, ambulance transportation expenses, and the fees from having at home IV antibiotics. Jenn will need several additional surgeries on her dominant hand to regain function, as well as both physical therapy and occupational therapy. Jenn’s livelihood and ability to support her children is threatened without these medical interventions.

 

Jenn’s financial situation was already destabilized as she battles through an extended divorce with mounting attorney fees. Financially she has been drained as she tries to raise her family without receiving any child support, pay for utility bills, and afford the ever-increasing cost of groceries. Jennifer is very concerned and overwhelmed by her financial situation. She does not know how she will be able to provide for her children, pay her mortgage, and cover her mounting medical expenses while maintaining her performance at work in order to keep her job.
