Jennifer has been a lifeline for my family as my disabled son’s in-home therapist. Over the past few months, my son’s frequent illnesses have meant Jennifer couldn’t get enough work hours to make ends meet or fix her failing car. On top of that, Jennifer became her mother’s primary caretaker after her mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and began chemotherapy.

Last Wednesday, Jennifer’s world changed in an instant. While at Lincoln’s high school with her mother and son, she witnessed her mother have a dramatic car accident with Lincoln in the passenger seat. Jennifer watched in horror as her mother was ejected from the windshield. She then rushed to the car, which had gone through a fence into an empty drainage pond, and held Lincoln upright until paramedics arrived. Lincoln was airlifted to the hospital and is now in the ICU. There are a few encouraging signs, but he remains in critical condition.

Jennifer is now facing funeral costs for her mother, mounting medical bills for Lincoln, the urgent need to fix or replace her car, and everyday expenses like groceries and utilities. She will also need therapy to help process the trauma of what she’s experienced.
