My name is Jennie Ann and I come on here to humbly ask for your help. To share a little about myself…I am a supervisor at Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club and a single mom to four kids, two of which (my 16 year old twins) are still at home with me. If I’m being completely honest, telling my story publicly is one of the hardest things for me to do and I find myself crying as I type this.
I’ve suffered from health problems my entire life; cardiomyopathy, Giant Cell Tumor, back pain, diabetes, neuropathy, etc. Two years ago I cut my right big toe on a piece of metal and it got infected. Shortly after, I ended up in the hospital with osteomyelitis and sepsis. I was extremely sick and the only way to save my life was by amputating my toe and treating me with an array of antibiotics. I managed to pull through and get back to my life.
A few weeks ago, I noticed a sore spot on the bottom of my foot. The same foot as the amputation. It had an infection line coming from the spot and running across my foot. I went to the ER and was told that my osteomyelitis had returned. I was admitted and stayed for eight days. They operated to do a debridement on the bottom and an incision on the top to take out two small bones to be cultured. I had a picc line put in and was sent home with antibiotics that costs $850 out of pocket because my insurance wouldn’t cover it. I did this treatment for six weeks with the assistance of home health who would come in every Monday and draw blood, check vitals, and change bandages.
On Monday the 24th, they came and got my blood samples. I had been feeling sick with weakness, night sweats, and nausea for a few days. The following day they called me to let me know that my labs were abnormal and more than likely my infection had returned. I came to the ER that afternoon but after sitting there for eight hours, I left. On Wednesday March 26th my doctor got me a direct admission. My osteomyelitis had returned. Yesterday at 2:30pm they did a trans metatarsal amputation with Achilles tendon lengthening so basically an amputation of half my foot. I am in an incredible amount of pain, I can’t walk but one or two steps and I’m scared because I don’t know how I’m going to pay my bills and buy what I need medically while I recover. My boys are doing the best they can to help out and get ready for me to return home. I’ve been in here for seven days and will probably be in here at least four or five more. The doctors say the road ahead of me will be a difficult one and I just pray they got all the infection and it won’t require further amputation. My family is helping with my children but times is hard for everyone and that’s why I feel ashamed asking for help. Even if all you can do is pray and share, please know that I greatly appreciate it. Thank you and God Bless ♥️
