Mayo Clinic: Support Jenna's Surgery and Recovery Costs
Donation protected
Hello! My name is Jenna and I am a 36 y/o who underwent an open surgery at Mayo Clinic Methodist Hospital and spent 10 difficult days in the hospital receiving expert care until I finally met criteria to be discharged.
I work full-time as a social worker at our local community mental health agency providing mental health therapy to adults, adolescents, and families receiving state benefits or who are uninsured. I also have a second job working in private practice on weekends to make ends meet. Unfortunately, I have exhausted all of my PTO benefits during my first trip to Mayo Clinic, which lasted 2 weeks for including medical testing, Dr appts, surgical consults (grateful I only needed 1 surgery and not 2!), and a biopsy of a mass in my Thoracic area behind my right ribcage.
I am seeking financial support from my broader community as I will be on FMLA leave for an extended period of time while I recover. I am hoping your generosity will help alleviate the financial stress I am currently experiencing in the midst of surmounting medical debt. I am most concerned about being able to balance a 2k mortgage payment on top of medical expenses.
I am beyond grateful to everyone who is stepping up to donate financially, for those who have sent care items from near and far, who have visited me and took a few calls when I was scared and in distress. For those who brought me Popsicles, Soup, Gatorade, & Fruit Snacks, for the grocery run and meal drop off, the shower support, the sleep over to make sure I was ok, the check in calls/texts, the tummy suckers, Vitamin C gummies, and new socks. I'm so grateful for my wheelchair pushers, airport strangers offering kindness, and medical supplies lovingly placed in my home before I arrived. It has been a tough journey! I look forward to writing more when I'm feeling better. For now, thank you kind, compassionate, loving, and giving humans ❤️
Thank you kindly for your consideration!
Heartfelt Thanks & Medical Update:
It’s been two weeks since I discharged from Mayo Clinic to home and what a journey it’s been! I am happy to say I had my first post-op virtual visit with my surgeon on Friday and I’m right where I need to be in my recovery!
The outpouring of support—both emotional and monetary—has been a huge blessing. I couldn’t have navigated this without your kindness, encouragement, and generosity.
While I’ve made it through the most challenging part of my recovery and managed some of the financial expenses, there’s still a long road ahead.
Thanks to many of you, I’ve received wonderful help—meals through a meal train, essential items like a shower chair, pillow wedge, Sherpa Snuggie (ok, maybe not essential, but sure is comfy!) and volunteers for yard work, household chores, transportation to local doctor appointments, and companionship care. Your generosity has been an incredible blessing during this time.
If anyone is feeling inspired to help further, I would be grateful for contributions toward my remaining medical debt. Every bit helps and means a lot!!
Thank you so much for your ongoing love and support. It truly warms my heart.
Warmly,
Jenna
