Some of you may know that Jenna has been struggling with medical issues for awhile now with auto immune hashimotos and not feeling well. This past year, she developed other concerning symptoms- continued persistent fatigue, along with a 35 lb unexplained weight loss and night sweats. She also started having severe abdominal pain and frequent nausea. The abdominal pain/ left flank pain was so bad one night, that she went to the ER for a possible kidney stone. They did a CT and found a LARGE cystic mass on her spleen (13.2 cm)

She then connected with an oncologist to figure out what might be causing these symptoms and this mass. She was worked up for lymphoma and thankfully, the lymph node biopsy was negative. The MD wasn’t sure about the mass and differentials could be a simple cyst, a hydatid infection or possibly splenic lymphoma or another type of cancer. She met with a surgical oncologist, who recommended doing surgery to remove the entire spleen/mass and then testing it to find out exactly what it is and if it’s causing all these symptoms. There are still some concerning unknowns. Surgery is scheduled for Sept 12th at Abbott.

Finding out she has a large splenic mass and needing to have surgery and be in the hospital for 2-5 days after, has been unexpected. She will be unable to work for the next few months as she recovers. As a wife and a mom of 3, the biggest concern is keeping life stable during this time. Between medical expenses, daily needs, and the mortgage, the anticipated financial stress on top of everything else, has been incredibly stressful.
