Support Jenna Becker as She Battles Cancer

My name is Megan Becker and many of you know my parents, Jenna and Jim Becker, or you know me or my brother, Alex. One day in early April, my mom suddenly started having back spasms. What should have been a minor trip to the doctor soon revealed she has an aggressive form of cancer.

In the three months since then, we have learned that it has already spread throughout her entire body. In particular, it metastasized to much of her spine, causing severely painful compression and fractures. She has undergone surgery, radiation, and now, intense chemotherapy. Practically overnight from that day in early April, life changed drastically.

Anyone who knows my mom knows that she is small, but mighty. She has been facing this horrible disease with an enormous amount of strength and grit. But even so, it has been devastating to watch my sweet mom, who is normally very active and who loves life, be completely sidelined. She now uses a wheelchair to get around, but it's nearly impossible for her to get outside to her beloved backyard, garden beds, and beach. She especially misses playing with and getting big hugs from her precious grandchildren, Waylon (4) and Charlotte (3).

My mom also has not been able to work during this battle with cancer. She loves her job as a travel agent and has always gone above and beyond for her valued clients. So, even more than the lost income, the loss of fulfilling work and connections with her clients has been demoralizing.

Many people have asked how they can help. But beyond meal trains, groceries, and housework, more than anything, my parents are in need of financial support. Between the many scans, treatments, and home health care visits, the medical bills are piling up. On top of all this, both of their vehicles needed major repairs, in the midst of numerous 8-hour round trips to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. My dad has had to continue working, in order for them to just get by – all while taking care of my mom around-the-clock.

Right now, my mom and dad need to focus on the fight for her life. They never wanted to have to make this kind of request, but having financial support from their cherished friends and family will help take a massive burden off of their minds, so that they can focus on healing and enjoying the beauty of life again.

Aside from paying the bills, we are hoping to use any remaining funds to bring the best quality of life possible back to my mom. We'd love to make her home and yard more accessible to her again, share joyful experiences together, and create lasting memories as a family.
