On November 10th, my mom Jenifer was in a car accident resulting in extensive injuries. Some of her injuries included a broken collarbone, sternum, 11 ribs, femur, tibia, fibula, patella, etc. She also has several hairline fractures in her arm, making it even more difficult to make progress towards walking again. After 3 surgeries and more than two weeks in the hospital, she has been discharged and is resting at home. While she has such a positive attitude and is eager to put this behind her, she has a long road ahead. She was the sole financial provider for her household since my father is disabled as well. He is unable to drive and she is months and months away from being able to do so herself, if ever. This puts them in such a vulnerable position, unfortunately, with the medical bills stacking up from her procedures and the upcoming doctor visits for both of them. My sister and I will now be largely responsible for any transportation and financial needs for the foreseeable future. This is not a position we ever thought our family would be in and it’s so scary to see how things can change in the blink of an eye. We are incredibly grateful for the progress she has made so far and the fact that she is even alive. Thank you in advance for any support and encouragement as we navigate our new normal, together, as a family.
Update: she is now facing another unexpected surgery tomorrow, 12/11/24. Originally, her wrist was expected to heal on its own but due to some complications will need surgery as well.
