Title: Emergency Help Needed After Toxic Mold Forced Me Out of My Home

Story:

My name is Jena, and I’m humbly asking for help during one of the hardest moments of my life. My home was recently declared uninhabitable due to toxic mold, and under medical advisement and a professional mold inspection, I was told I needed to vacate immediately for my own health and safety. Unfortunately, the landlord of the 4-plex is not cooperating with California state laws and will not remedy the mold situation until everyone has vacated. He won’t put any tenants up in a hotel or pay for moving expenses and is refusing to give back any tenants their $4000 deposit. The tenants had to pay for the mold reports (Total $550 from Bio Safety Clean and $52 each tenant for PRO-LAB and medical lab tests).

The situation has created sudden, overwhelming expenses that I cannot manage alone. I have found a new place to move to on 4/18 for an expedited move. I am disabled with many autoimmune conditions and since living in the current dwelling I have suffered Tachycardia, Afib, severe sinus infections, unidentified rashes, worsening brain fog, and now depression, all of which I’ve had hospital stays and medications that my body is super sensitive to. My son has suffered recurring sinus infections and mysterious rashes as well. Our dog Jax, who was very healthy before moving in with us, has suffered greatly from mold toxicity and has been having recurring seizures that have worsened with time and frequency and now needs to be put down. His brain is no longer functioning like it should. I have all documentation, including:

The official mold inspection report from BioSafety Clean and Pro Lab (Feb 21 & 26)
Emails and inspection with the City of Folsom Code Enforcement (Officer Jennifer Johnson)
Medical documentation, including my positive mold toxicity test ordered by my doctor.
Jax’s health demise with recurring seizures. We have to put him down. ($270) at Banfield Pet Hospital
Hospital stay documentation

Because of the toxic conditions, I am forced to leave quickly — without the ability to save, plan, or prepare. I am now responsible for:

First month’s rent + deposit for a safe, habitable new home
Moving costs for a 2-bedroom relocation
Emergency lodging and cleaning costs
Replacement of contaminated items that cannot safely be taken (undetermined)
Euthanasia for Jax ($270 that doesn’t include cremation) Banfield Pet Hospital
Ongoing medical expenses to detox the mold in my system by a functional medicine doctor (insurance does not cover)

I have always tried to take care of myself and handle my own challenges, but this situation has hit faster and harder than anything I’ve faced. I’m trying to stay strong, but I need help.

If you know me, you know I have always helped others. I’ve taken people in when they needed the help, fed, clothed anyone who needed it. I only asked for them to pay it forward. Now I’m finding myself in a situation that I was not prepared for.

If you are able to donate, share, or offer support in any way, it would mean more than I can express. Every contribution helps me take one step closer to stability, safety, and healing.

Thank you for reading and for caring.

With gratitude,

Jena and Rylee
