Our family is facing an unimaginable challenge. This past Sunday, my soon to be brother in law was involved in a serious accident involving a mini motorbike. His injuries were severe, which cause him to be airlifted to Upstate Hospital where he underwent orthopedic surgery and is now on a long road to recovery.

Jeff is the sole provider for his family, as my sister recently gave birth to his youngest and only daughter, who is the youngest of his six children, and has been out of work to care for her in her infancy. This health setback has come at an especially difficult time, not only because my sister is out of work, but also because they were supposed to celebrate their wedding this weekend, a day they’ve been looking forward to for so long.

Jeff is a hardworking, devoted father and partner who always puts his family first. When it comes to work, he has been described as an “Energizer Bunny” many times by my family, as he seems to be almost allergic to sitting still, which makes this health setback especially difficult on him. His mind is always going a million miles an hour, usually faster than his body, and much faster than his body can recover. When he was told one of the injuries he sustained was a broken shoulder, his response was, “I guess I’m not going to be swinging a hammer anytime soon.”

This accident has brought emotional and financial hardship. Their family faces overwhelming challenges that include medical bills, everyday expenses, and basic needs such as food, diapers, and housing costs.
