Yesterday we had a family meeting with the ICU doctor and the heart team. Jeff having to go back on the vent was a huge setback. Basically he was in multiple organ failure. His heart, his kidneys, and now his lungs were all failing. He was on complete life support…breathing tube, dialysis, and numerous medications to help his heart pump and keep blood pressure stable. We asked point blank if there was anything left that they could do…even a possible heart transplant. He wasn’t eligible because of his other organs failing. Best case scenario was IF he survived, he would have a trache, feeding tube in his stomach, and dialysis, and would be in a nursing home. Gracie said it best when she said he would hate his life. We made the tough decision to remove Jeff from life support, which we did this morning shortly after 10am. He passed away almost immediately. As always, thank you all for your prayers and support.
